Firmware version 4.39, issued July 6, 2011, contains additional audio mixing choices for the CONFIG:L-MIX-R menu. To be able to use these on the fly while you are contesting in Single-Op Two VFO (SO2V) or Single Op Two Radio (SO2R) mode, it will be useful to program function keys with macros to set the audio mix desired. The Elecraft K3 Programmer’s Reference manual's MN command allows you to select a configuration menu and MP allows you to set the parameter. The trick is knowing what parameter to set to choose the audio mixing required. Here is how to do that for the L-MIX-R menu.

1.     Run the K3 Utility program.

2.     Click on Command Tester/K3 Macros tab.

3.     On your K3, select the CONFIG:L-MIX-R menu and choose the L-MIX-R combination desired, say Ab Ab.

4.     In the Enter K3 command. Enter key or semicolon sends: window, type MN;. You should see MN111; in the response window.

5.     Now type MP;. You should see MP003; in the response window.

This process shows us that the MN111; is the proper command to enter the L-MIX-R menu and that MP003; will set the  Ab Ab mix. The final command that is needed for this macro is MN255;, which leaves the menu selection. Table 8-1 shows the macros to select the nine possible audio mixes.

Use the procedure listed above to program any of the ten programmable function keys.
